The film “Junkyards” was shot by Olaf Holzapfel (*1967) at 3 kibbutzim in Israel. He refers to “The gardens of Malka Haas”, a method of playing developed by an Israeli teacher. Here children learn to grasp and understand the world through performative play with everyday objects. Holzapfel observed the children over three years and recorded “Junkyards” with his camera. He uses the image projected on the screen to rearrange the space by joining various details together as a type of choreography.
